  • Some hyperbole

    This book was interesting in parts, but I found many discrepancies in some of the "facts" he reports. The "fact" that they can't keep certain snake antivenin at the house because it doesn't keep. In fact, that particular antivenin is good for at least 6 months if kept refrigerated. Also, at one point he mentions wild elephants holding on to other elephant's tails. This is a behavior never seen in wild's a trained behavior used by circus elephants. I just felt many of the experiences related in this book were exaggerated ....many just did not make sense!

    By uprise24 touching and true and real. Please honor this book and this species by not attending circuses, zoos or anything where animals that should be free and wild are kept in cages. See PAWS, Performing Animals Welfare Society, go to their website and see what they are doing to rescue elephants and other species and help them in their cause. Bless you.

    Bravo....what an inspirational read! I had the opportunity to live in South Africa for a year & visited Umfolozi game reserve & many others & developed a true love of elephants myself. I especially enjoyed Lawrence taking the reader into the meeting houses of the Chiefs and explaining the Zululand interesting! What an amazing man Lawrence Anthony is...a true hero for African wildlife.
